6 Things That Make Me Happy

Day 20 of the #NurseBlogger challenge!

Only 6, whatttt? I really like this one because I love talking about the things that make me happy…which is usually a lot because I’m easily entertained and just a generally happy person!


6 Things That Make Me Happy

1. Coffee.

I mean c’mon, who doesn’t get happy about freaking coffee? I’m the type of girl that goes to bed excited for the cup of coffee I’m going to have the next morning. I can’t think of a better way to start my morning than with some home brewed coffee, sitting on my front porch reading and enjoying the beautiful sunrise. Btw highly recommend the new salted cream cold foam cold brew from Starbucks (now say that 5x fast, geez, what a name).

2. The outdoors. 

If I could spend every single day outside for the rest of my life, I would be content. I love everything related to being outside. Swimming, tanning, hiking, walking, skiing, camping… literally anything. I have a new-found love for being outside. As a kid growing up in Michigan, I disliked being outside in the winter. It was cold and gross. As an adult, growing up in Florida, I want to do everything outside. It sucks because with my job, I literally spend 12 hours inside, sun up to sun down. So every opportunity that I can spend outdoors, I do, and it makes me incredibly happy.

3. A drenched in sweat, amazing pump, workout. 

I used to workout every single day in high school. I graduated, moved out, started nursing school and my habit of working out/eating good went down the drain. I’m slightly mad at myself because I felt good and looked great then, but I’ve listened to my own excuses and stopped doing it, so it’s my own fault. But the one thing I will say is that if you love something, and it makes you happy, don’t ever give up on it (unless it’s drugs or something). Make sure you make it a priority in your life no matter how busy you are because doing things for yourself is the best thing. Now, here I am, 2 years later, trying to motivate myself to get back to the gym and it’s very hard. But one thing that truly does make me very happy, even now that it’s more rare for me, is a workout that leaves me with a great pump and I am drenched in sweat (but girls don’t sweat, they sparkle). If I am walking home from my gym or my run with sweat pouring down my stomach (because boob sweat is so real), I feel so damn good about myself!

4. Learning new things. 

I have always been the type of person that loves to learn new things. When I was a kid I would read all the time and stay in my room to study way more than I needed to for school. As I get older I love to learn new things as it relates to my career and the human body. Every job that I ever had, I have always wanted to learn more outside of my basic job description so that I could perform better and help out in other areas if needed. Kindergarten through college is not the only times in our lives that we should be learning. We should really never stop learning. It’s good for the brain. I have always been the one to try and learn everything that I can so that I can master skills and understand things outside of what other people might know. Obviously learning makes me happy or else I wouldn’t want to spend so much of my life doing it!

5. KIDS. 

I freaking love kids so much. They are such carefree, fun, sassy individuals. Kids have all types of different personalities. They find joy in everything. They live in the moment and enjoy whatever they have in that moment. Essentially, the responsibilities of being a kid include eating, sleeping, playing, and going potty. They are so carefree and enjoyable to be around (for the most part). Just thinking about kids makes me happy. I love them so much and I can not wait to have my own one day.

6. Fridays! 

Everyone loves their Fridays! Fridays=a day off to relax! No alarms. No obligations. No work. Unless you have kids… #sorry! Fortunately, I do not have kids right now so my off days consist of relaxing. Self-care days are always nice and rejuvenating. (You can read my blog about self care here)! Off days means catching up on sleep I didn’t get to have that week. I love my Fridays because it gets me excited for my day(s) off! 🙂
