Why “Scrubs and Swimsuits”?

I decided to jump on the bandwagon and follow the 30 day #NurseBlogger challenge! 1 blog post per day for the next 30 days! Let’s have a kick-ass August. This is a big month for me as I begin my *last* semester of nursing school! I’m excited and I’m nervous, but I’m so ready for the challenge! These next few months are going to be stressful, but they will be worth it in the end as I will finally be a registered nurse! Let’s get started with the #NurseBlogger challenge, day 1!

Day 1: Why did you make “Scrubs and Swimsuits”?

The idea of starting a blog came to me about 2 months ago from one of my mentors who encouraged me to begin writing about my life and my journey as a young, student nurse along with my transition to the real world of nursing. There are many things I wish I knew before I began life as a student nurse and there are things I wish to know for my transition from a student to an actual nurse. I wanted to build a platform of information for other people to help them grow and transition in their own lives/jobs. When I imagined starting a blog I imagined it to be a place for other people (not just nursing students) to view as inspiration. I believed in myself and my knowledge to be used as motivation for others. My mentor continues to encourage me and point me in the direction to expand my blog to other people so it can continue to grow and be a platform of knowledge and creativity.

I was really nervous about starting my own blog because I wasn’t sure who would read it nor care about it. I overcame my fear and, instead, chose to embrace the journey. I enjoy blogging for myself. It makes me happy. Over time I hope that students use my blog to their advantage because the best kind of advice is advice that comes from people who deal with things first hand. I will never stop looking for advice, inspiration, knowledge, and information for the rest of my life.

How did I come up with the name? This was actually the easiest part, believe it or not. Choosing a name is an important part of the blog because it draws people in. Poorly chosen blog names means no traffic to the website and essentially, that means I’m helping no one. This blog name came to me one day at work after a long 4 days off spent at the beach. I kept thinking about how I spend most of my days either at work/school (in scrubs) or at the beach/outside (in my swimsuit). Somehow “Scrubs and Swimsuits”  just fit. The name actually came to me before the idea of starting a blog and once the name stuck with me for a while I decided to use it to start up my blog. Although it is a “nursing” theme, I wanted my blog to be more than just my life as a student/real nurse. I wanted my blog to go behind the scenes and show off my life or thoughts outside of being a nurse/student. My overall goal is to travel within the next 3 years and that is where a lot of my travel blogging will come from. So, overall, I wanted the audience for my blog to be for everyone! Of course it is going to be a great platform of information for student nurses. But outside of that, it is also for other people to get an insight into traveling along with inspiration for any area of their lives.

I hope you all enjoy reading my blog Scrubs and Swimsuits and continue to follow me on this journey! 🙂
